Strikes me as kinda arbitrary. I'd rather see "learning the subject" become more game-like, rather than dressing it up with a bunch of arbitrary game-like rules…
I still maintain that if "gamifying" a course is to be more than a gimmick, we need to find a way to have students' (players') character profiles -- level, experience, skills, etc. -- reflect their real-life developing knowledge & skills. And that's one hell of an assessment problem.
Agreed. All the XP stuff will simply force to students finding new ways to max their score while minimizing the actual work.
